Who is actually behind this
Tailgate Office, LLC, a Maryland company started by the team behind Data Processing LLC, a web agency that is founder-led and small on purpose. We have spent years building and hosting websites for home-service contractors — fence builders, pressure washers, painters, landscapers, roofers, junk haulers.
We are not a venture-funded platform company. There is no sales floor. Nobody here has a quota. When you call (301) 268-1943, the phone rings on the desk of somebody who has touched the code.
That is the whole company. We think it is an advantage, and we are betting the business on it.
A website is a brochure. Brochures don’t answer the phone.
Here is the pattern we watched over and over. We build a contractor a genuinely good site. Fast, mobile, clean photos, real service pages, ranks fine locally. Traffic shows up. Analytics look healthy.
Six months later the owner is unhappy, and he is right to be. Two hundred people visited last month. Three filled out the form. The other 197 wanted a number and the site said “call for a free estimate.” So they called. He was on a ladder. It rang out. They called the next company on the list.
The website was never the problem. The gap between the website and the truck was the problem. Nobody was selling anything that closed it for less than $400 a month.
So we built it. Four tools that live in that gap: give the visitor a price, text back the missed caller, turn the truck door into a hiring pipeline, and, once switched on, ask every customer for a review when the job is done. That is Tailgate Office.
62%
of calls to home-service businesses go unanswered. Not ignored — unanswered, because the owner is working.
78%
of jobs go to whoever responds first. Not the best price. Not the best reviews. First.
3%
of voicemails get a callback. That is the system most contractors are running right now.
Published industry figures for home services, not our own results. They are listed with the rest of our sourcing on the worked examples page.
What we will and won’t do
These are not values on a poster. They are the reasons we lose some deals on purpose.
The price is on the website
Every price we charge is printed publicly: $99, $49, $69, $49, or $199 for all four. No "contact sales for a custom quote." If we ever need to hide the price, something has gone wrong with the product.
No setup fees, ever
Competitors charge $400–600 to configure the thing you already paid for. Setup is our job, not a separate invoice. If your account takes us four hours to build, that is our problem.
No contracts, no cancel calls
Month to month. Cancel from a button in the dashboard at 11pm on a Sunday if you want. We are not going to make you sit through a retention pitch to leave. (If an agency partner runs your account, your plan and your cancellation go through them.)
Plain English, everywhere
No "omnichannel engagement orchestration." You are buying a thing that texts people back. We will describe it that way in the app and on every page of this site.
Compliance is our job
A2P 10DLC carrier registration, consent rules, STOP handling, quiet hours — our job, not yours. Consent scoping and quiet hours run today; the carrier filing is ours to do the day it opens. You should not have to learn telecom law to text a customer back.
We will tell you not to buy
If you get four calls a month and answer all of them, CallMitt™ will not pay for itself. We would rather say that on the phone than take $49 a month from someone who is not getting value.
We are new. Here is exactly how new.
Tailgate Office launched in 2026. We are in our first season. We do not have a wall of customer logos, we do not have a “trusted by 4,000 contractors” banner, and we are not going to print one.
You will notice there are no testimonials on this site with a smiling stock photo and a five-star rating. That is deliberate. Every scenario you see on our case studies page is labelled as a worked example built from public industry averages — not a customer result — because we do not have customer results to publish yet.
What we do have: the software is built and running — the front office you would use every day works today, the quote widget included. The texting features are built and enforce every rule we publish, and they start sending per account once that account’s carrier registration clears and our SMS gateway is live. Until then each text is composed and kept in the outbox to read, and one held more than an hour is never sent, so the contractor calls that customer back. The people answering the phone are the ones who wrote the code. When we have pilot numbers, they will go up on this site with the customer’s name attached and their permission on file. Until then, this space stays honest and slightly empty.
What being early costs you
What being early gets you
Being an agency first changed the product
A software company would have built a platform you migrate into. We built four things that bolt onto what you already have, because we are the ones who would have to do the migrating.
It installs on the site you have
NapkinPrice™ is a script tag. It goes into WordPress, Squarespace, Webflow or something a nephew built in 2016 like any other content (some builders want a paid plan for scripts), and into Wix and GoDaddy too, whose HTML boxes are frames that just need a height set tall enough for the form. We have had to install things on all of those.
It does not replace your CRM
If you run Jobber or Housecall Pro, keep them. A webhook or Zapier moves the lead across today, and native push is on the roadmap. Nobody should have to switch their whole operating system to get a quote widget.
It leaves your phone number alone
Your business line stays exactly where it is and keeps ringing as it does now; nothing is ported. CallMitt is built to text from your own texting number, a local number in your area code that is registered to your business — a number in your own area code is the whole reason we took the 10DLC route rather than handing you an 800 line. The caller dials one number and hears back from another, so every text opens with your business name. We learned the hard way what happens when a customer sees a number they do not recognize.
It is priced like an add-on
Because it is one. Contractors already pay for a website, a CRM, ads and insurance. A fourth $400 subscription is not a realistic ask, so we did not build one.
